Construction PPE Tracking: OSHA Compliance Made Simple

Construction sites are among the most heavily regulated workplaces for PPE. Every worker needs properly certified hard hats, high-visibility vests, safety boots, and often harnesses, gloves, and eye protection.

OSHA 29 CFR 1926 requires employers to provide and maintain PPE. The key word is 'maintain' — you need to prove that every piece of PPE is inspected, within certification dates, and in serviceable condition.

Track PPE by job site. Create a location for each active project. When a project ends, check in all equipment and reallocate to the next project. This prevents items from getting lost between sites.

Subcontractor PPE: Even if subcontractors bring their own equipment, you may be responsible for ensuring it meets standards. Track subcontractor PPE separately but in the same system.

Digital records beat paper. When an OSHA inspector asks to see your PPE records, generating a complete report in 30 seconds makes a much better impression than searching through filing cabinets.
